CROSSOVER DOCS

Date: 05 October 2008 to 10 October 2008
Venue: THE DEVONSHIRE ARMS COUNTRY HOUSE HOTEL & SPA, BOLTON ABBEY, SKIPTON, NORTH YORKSHIRE

Social media, social networks, alternate reality games, serious games, user generated content and participatory story-telling: just some of the terms used to describe emerging digital media formats. With the BBC calling for ‘360’ proposals and Channel 4 describing itself as ‘network publisher’, are there new ways to engage audiences with factual topics and documentary subjects?

In Crossover Docs, factual and documentary film and television producers worked with games developers, web and interaction designers to invent innovative projects for cross-platform delivery. A focus of the five day, residential lab was on interactive projects which address big ideas and contemporary challenges including climate change and other scientific issues.

Commissioning the Future

Commissioning The Future is the new European training initiative for commissioning editors and funders, developed by Crossover (UK) in partnership with Documentary Campus (Germany) and Sheffield Doc/Fest (UK).

We strongly believe that it is vital to train the decision-makers in order for the convergent marketplace to really thrive. Therefore we have developed this new European training course offering three five-day long creative and commercial innovation labs, focused on commissioning for the emerging convergent digital media ecology.
